Responsibilities: We have an opportunity for an Underwriting Trainee to join our team! You will be responsible for learning the Underwriting role and subsequently contributing to the growth and profit of the Jewelers Block practice and portfolio of business. We are open to college graduates with 1-2 years of insurance experience who are interested in starting (or continuing in) an underwriting career.   • Develop broad knowledge of the insurance business, marketplace, company goals, objectives and metrics
  • Demonstrate broad understanding of company operations, strategies, financials and competitive advantages
  • Compare company coverage to competitors and identify competitive differences and position them effectively
  • Able to articulate company product and service capabilities and position them to meet specific customer needs
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of rate, growth and profit objectives and take into consideration when making underwriting decisions and pre-qualifying risks
  • Perform detailed analysis utilizing appropriate information to determine account acceptability and which takes customer needs into consideration
  • Apply underwriting knowledge and risk information to make sound decisions on pricing, terms and conditions
  • Demonstrate and apply understanding of line of business and customer segmentation objectives
  • Make decisions within authority and refer risks outside authority
  • Able to identify customer needs and objectives and position products accordingly
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-2+ years insurance experience
  • An interest in learning our Jeweler's Block underwriting process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, displaying a positive attitude
  • Detail orientation with initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with team members at all levels of the organization
