Moves patients through the registration/ordering/check-in process in a timely manner
M onitors patient schedule frequently. Maintaining a full testing schedule for the sleep center and prompt patient service. Schedules and reschedules patients as needed, filling open slots promptly
P repares testing orders for the physician & technologists, ensuring accuracy and adhering to all HIPAA requirements
A ssists patients with completion of hospital forms and explains exam preparation for testing done in the Sleep Center department
F axes and mails patient documents according to established policy/procedure
M aintains proficiency in all computer functionality necessary to perform job duties (EPIC, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.)
T riages patients and patient phone calls per Covenant HealthCare policy and procedure. Facilitates use and maintenance of all treatment equipment and triages all home care related questions and needs to the appropriate entity (physician, sleep center, home care company)
O btains purpose for patient visit and takes appropriate vital signs. Assists provider and technical staff with procedures. Coordinates sleep testing, home medical equipment needs, labs, etc., per physician order. Maintains medical records and clinical standards in compliance with regulatory agencies and Covenant HealthCare policies/procedures. Ensures that the referring physician receives interpreted study results in a timely manner as defined by QA indicator.
P repares exam rooms between patients following proper procedures for cleaning contaminated materials and supplies
A ssists team by coordinating patient questions and concerns to the proper provider. Provides pamphlets and instructions as requested. Addresses patient questions and concerns following clinical protocols. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights.
R eviews medical charts for patient history; obtains clinical history; prepares/interviews and explains process/testing/treatment to patients under his/her care.
E nsures appropriateness of order; processes orders as required; gathers testing information from outside facilities; charges supplies and exams
F ollows up with patients that are scheduled and those who do not show with the goal of successfully coordinating sleep related testing, treatment outcomes and timely follow up care. Acts as a liaison between the patient, home care company and sleep center to ensure continuity of care.
M anages multiple telephone lines using established telephone etiquette skills and transfers inquires appropriately. Answers the telephone and provides appropriate information and/or directs calls to appropriate provider/staff member. Assist with the scheduling of patient clinic visits and testing procedures, and registers patients when appropriate.
O btains pre-certification and/or pre-authorization for all sleep testing where applicable.
U nder the guidance of the Coordinator, assists in maintaining all AASM, OSHA, HFAP and Corporate Compliance regulations. Functions with an awareness of safety issues. Demonstrates awareness of confidentiality and legal issues in all aspects of patient care. Meets or exceeds all competency requirement expectations.

Qualifications:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma and/or equivalent required. A successful completion of a competency-based Medical Assistant (MA) training program required. In lieu of a MA program, a minimum of two (2) years recent physician office and/or direct care patient provider experience will be accepted. BCLS certification required (within 6 months of hire).
K NOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
K nowledge of sleep disorders medicine and how to effectively communicate with patients
K nowledge of proper “release of information” standards
S trong working knowledge of computers and software
P referred: knowledge of EPIC, and MS SOFTWARE
E xcellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
A bility to properly obtain/perform the following: - Vital signs, A.E.D. use, BLS certification, Patient education
A bility to properly obtain patient information regarding sleep
A bility to remain calm and courteous in stressful/difficult situations
